In the month of November in 2017, again represented Punjab in the 2018 season of Ranji Trophy, this time making his first class debut. Later that month, while playing for Punjab versus Services in just his 2nd first-class match, he scored his first hundred. He scored 129 runs against the Bengals.
As a part of India C’s squad Gill went on to score a century in the final match to help his side win the championship. Gill achieved his very first double-hundred in the first-class format in 2018 while representing Punjab versus Tamil Nadu, having scored a mammoth 268 runs. When Punjab needed 338 runs from 57 overs on the fourth day of their Ranji Trophy encounter against Hyderabad on December 25, 2018, Gill scored 148 off 154 balls to nearly single-handedly lead his team to victory. Punjab completed the run chase in 57 overs to secure a victory in the game.
Having scored 728 runs in 5 matches, he emerged as Punjab’s highest run getter in the 2018–19 Ranji season. Before the 2019 Indian Premier League competition, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named him one of the eight players to watch in March 2019.
Gill was then given the opportunity to lead India Blue during the 2019-2020 season of the Duleep Trophy and later on India C during the Deodhar Trophy being the youngest captain ever.
IPL
Shubman made his Indian Premier League (IPL) as part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018 and dazzled everyone with his batting abilities. He was awarded the tournament’s Emerging Player after scoring 203 runs in 13 games. He was selected for the Indian national team’s visit to New Zealand in 2019 as a result of his IPL performances.
Gill departed the Kolkata Knight Riders and got picked by the newly created Gujarat Titans squad for $8 crore before the 2022 IPL auction.
International Career
